Kim Dae Jung Visits Portland
Kim Dae Jung
The former President of South Korea will grace
Portland with 3 speaking engagements, one on April 17th and two on April 18th.
Details are listed below. You can also click here to get copies of the Event Poster
and the Event Flyer.
President and Nobel Peace Laureate Kim Dae Jung is a world figure and is
known in international peace circles as the Nelson Mandela of Asia. He was
kidnapped in Tokyo; put on death row for three years where his captors
attempted to kill him three times; got out of prison and won the
Presidency; pulled South Korea out of a severe recession; survived four
assassination attempts; brought democracy to South Korea; and then won the
2000 Nobel Peace Prize (Korea's only Nobel Peace Laureate). He is known as the
father of democracy in South Korea. He is someone the entire world can be proud of.
Your Invitation
I want to encourage you to come and see President Kim Dae Jung in person, especially
at his luncheon speech on April 18th, noon, Friday at the downtown Portland Hilton Hotel.
Mayor Tom Potter will introduce him to the City and read a proclamation honoring him and
all Korean's in Portland. Another purpose of the luncheon is to bring together business
people and others to honor President Kim and the contribution of the Korean American
community in Oregon.
If your organization would like to buy a table at the luncheon, they are
$1,000 and seat 10. You could invite your largest donors; your table would
have a two foot high metal sign with a 3 by 5 card that indicated your
organization's name. Also the next level up would be a sponsorship, where
your name would be on the program, and you could have a table in the lobby
with your marketing boards and your sales literature there. The
sponsorships go for $2500 and include two luncheon tickets also. There will
be only 12 sponsorships, so let me know if you are interested in a
sponsorship.
